Zorki 5 problems

Hi, I just found out my parents had an old Zorki 5. The camera worked ( even though a bit rusty ) , the problem is I winded the film w/o the lens on not knowing this would be an issue. What can I do? How can I repair this camera? IS there a way? The lever that winds the film is now blocked, if I press the shutter nothing happens. This is such a nice camera and I want to restore it. :)

Dear kaizoku

Zorki 5 ans Zorki 6 are good cameras but prone to the problem you described in all their series.
You must remove the top of the camera.
the locking of mechanics is due to a small subchassis where is mounted the gear responsible for reversing the action of the cranck advance.
This samll chassis is mantained in place by three screws.
When these screws loosen themselves the gear comes so tightly close to the two other ones that it is imposssible to make the mechanics roll.

The solution is relatively easy:
Discover that subchassis and get this gear far from the other two.
Retight the screws and the camera gets working again.
Now for a permanent repair, clean all the área with a lighter fluid and carefully loose the screws without moving the gear.
Glue the ares with a methachrilate and retight the screws
I will soon follow pictures of the procedure.

If the serial number is ont he back of the camera, my number is 59099788 . The problem is I can't remove the top of the camera. The lever that winds the film is now blocked and I can't acces the screw under the lever. Is there a way to get that lever out or something?

Luiz is such an expert.

So it doesn't matter if you use a Zorki-5 or Zorki-6 without lens. It only depends on those 4 screws when they get loose. I wonder when this happened for the first time and if KMZ did something to prevent this in future, some paint on those 4 screws might be enough.

Thanks for your serial-number Kaizoku. When I watch the photo from Luiz it seems the whole button with the wind-lever is connected with the frame and those 4 screws. Try to push the whole button to the side and you might be able to wind.

Zoki 5 from first series ar easier to dismantle once you need no disassemble the rangefinder compensating prism

For didatic purposes Zorki 5 and 6 are the same differin only on the abssence of self timer and bottom loading construction on the model 5

Your Zorki 5 is from second series and equals to the model 6 in the top cap

This is th sequence of dismanling:


1 Unscrew the inner crown that holds the frame counter and surrounds the firng button
OBSERVE THIS IS A LEFT SCREW!!!!
THE THREAD IS REVERSE TO NORMAL SCREWS.

2 Remove the rangefinder compensating prism
this part is composed by three threaded -on parts Someetimes it comes complete some times dont

3 Remove the film reminder central screw on rewind knob

4 Loose two screws and remove the speed dial knob

5 With a a large screw driver fix the internal film forcket that engages on film spool and unscrew the rewind button the normal way.

6 remove two screws that holds the plateau of dipter correction lever.

7 the contacts are internally connected through small internal plugs
do not reverse them

A further operation must be done on the lever advance
