Help. Can not fit Tair 11A to Zenit TTL.

12 posts in this thread
Can somebody help? I have Tair 11A what does not fit to standard Zenit M42 camera. The threads on Tair just a hair bigger then they should.
What cameras this lens fit?
Tair 11A has "T2" or "T4" mount with different pitch. It is 42mm in witdth, but different height between threads. The lens should come with two mounts, one for M39 and other for M42. And if you mount it on camera loosely, without screwing it at all, it should focus like meter scale, as the adapter is also extension!

But what camera can it be fitted to? Seems that I can take out this part and put M42 adapter instead(when I'll find one:) I just wondering what cameras use such mount?
No camera used it. It (T2 and T4) was one way to make universal lenses before there was sophisticated contacts between lens and camera. Like full aperture metering, AE and such. For example Tamron Adaptall is easier to understand, as it is so completely different to any camera mount, and also needs adapter always.

Didn't the FS-2 reflex mount have a weird threading like that? Just vaguely remembering something...
Yes, M42 but different height between two threads, pitch if I am correct. T4 adds aperture stop-down mechanism to T2 (iirc).

I'm little bit confused about this. Let me post pictures:

See Juhani this is M on the thing. And thred, but not M42

Then I take out 3 screws and took off this M adapter:

Now I supouse I can put real M42 adapter(have to find one:) on it place.
Please Juhani tell what is called T2? Is it adapter what I took off? If it does not go to any camera then why the heak KMZ put it on??? And box say lens for camera Zenit:

Of cause box may be not original. Who know what they selling on eBay this days? Shocked

What diameter? If 39, than M39x1/45.2.
My opinion is that you need T2 or T4-adapter, and "M42" for usual Zenits with M42. 11A should be delivered with at least one adapter but who knows it it has gotten lost?
But what about focus, did you try it? That would make it certain. Put lens on infinity, then look through finder. If you must hold the lens approx 5mm away from camera to have sharp infinity then the case is solved: you need the T2-/T4-adapter. Think of it as a 5mm extension ring, but lens-thread has another pitch.

The diameter is just a hair bigger then M42. Probably 43mm or 42.5mm

I did this experiments. Without adapter as you Juhani predict I need about 5mm to focus to infinity. So I'll need T2/T4 adapter for this lens. That is right!
But what should I do with existing adapter? I mean what camera can it go to? Could it be that KMZ put defective adapter on the lens? Hard to believe in this Smile
It goes to nothing, but it must be there for the T2-/T4-adapter. Actually you do NOT have any adapter at all now!

Excuse but all of you are competely in a mistake!
The lens does not accept any T2 T4 or any other adapter!
the lens says "A" so it receives an "A" adapter. a Russian Standard!
Those "A" adapters were and are made in "M39" Old Zenits, "M42"New Zenits, "K" called "Patriot K" slighly different but comptible with Pentax K and "N" Nikon mount for Kiev 17 on, and are regularly sold by Rugift, Poisk and other companies.
As it was shown by the pictures this fall apart "A" adapter is an "M42" one. If you cant fit in your camera anything goes wrong, possible a damaged thread. This is very easy to solve.
There is sold in automobile repair shop stuff an special grease with thin carborundum emeril particles. This is used for rectifying motor valves seats in order to repair possible pressure leaks. A small quantity of this grease and a to-and-fro in the threads (camera nad lens) will put your lens in perfect shape! Danger put this grease on the lens surface! serious scratches can be done. So clean area wit a drap of tissue, immediatly after the thread is fitting well.
That is all.
